Hi everyone,
This is my first blog entry for the month of June. After almost 28 years of being with my wonderful parents, and siblings, I will be moving into a group home on June 12th. I am so excited, nervous, sad, etc. I'm one big ball of emotions to be honest. I have had the support of my wonderful mother for 27 years. I don't know what I'll do without her once I move forward and become independent. But I know I made the right choice, I believe our relationship will only become stronger once I soar from the nest!
I have amazing supports here in MA. Including my friends from the Point After Club. My DMH case manager and many other people. I can't name them all, but you know who you are. I see the excitement from my friends and I burst with joy!! I know many people are proud of me. To be honest I didn't think I would ever be on my own because I have a mental illness. I also have a learning difference. I just assumed I would never be capable of one day living in my own place. But now in just a few short days I will be.
I know I was on my own for two years in College, but this is a totally different experience. I will have support at my new place. I know they will guide me, watch me grow and help me through any struggles I have. I have so many emotions that I am going through. I am just so thrilled to finally have the chance to leave the nest. I know I will be okay. I think that if not for the support system that I have here, I probably would not have the courage to become independent from my mom. Especially my mom. WE are attached at the hip. I know at first it will be hard, I know she'll always have my back. But I will be stronger because I'm independent in the end.
I am the luckiest kid alive to have the supports that I do. If I didn't have them in my life I don't know if I would be able to be a success in anything I do. Because of them I have become stronger through my obstacles, my struggles, etc. I will be a success at this too. I believe in myself. I know its not always easy to have courage, but I know if I fall I can find the the support to move through my obstacle. I have the resources to know if something is wrong. I can seek out help when I need to. I am so blessed to be able to move on and be on my own, but also have the help when I need it from those in the mental health field.
I hope that all my friends read this post and comment. Please comment, because this post is the most important entry so far on my blog. I know I can count on y'all. Thanks for listening, reading, and commenting.
