It's been 5 years

Mental illness is something that I had known about for a while through one of my favorite actors Maurice Benard who plays Sonny on General Hospital. Little did I know that I too would be affected by mental illness. I had my break on Easter weekend of 2009. It was probably one of the most scariest things I've ever had to go through. But now I consider what happened to me to be a blessing because I have met wonderful people within the mental health community who have done so much for me. But I do think that having the idea that I wouldn't get hit with mental illness was pretty selfish of me. The NAMI walk is coming up next month and that is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. I am leaving soon as most of you know to North Carolina.
Several members and staff have signed a scrapbook project that I'm doing to have something to remember them by. I am so honored to have the opportunity to be a member of two wonderful club houses. I have known and still do so many folks who work hard to change lives. Members included. If not for what happened to me 5 years ago I don't know what life would be like. Don't get me wrong there are times I wish I could change what happened but I know there is now way I can do that. I wouldn't have the ability to do so. I wouldn't have met Tom Coppinger, or Charlotte Hamawi. Both of whom who are pretty fabulous in my book. I do hope to one day make a difference in people's lives just as those I've mentioned made in mine. I know everyone knows how I feel about my wanting to be a teacher but maybe I could do something in the mental health system as well even if it is just a small thing. It doesn't have to be big. I could be a peer leader in the North Carolina clubhouse community.
This is way off topic but I have the awesome chance to interview GH actor Thaao Penghlis for my blog. He plays Victor Cassadine. I am thrilled. It's not Carly Simon but hey having a chance to interview a GH villain is pretty cool in my book. I have to formulate some questions and send them to him by the time I go to bed or tomorrow. Please wish me luck doing this interview. Last time I interviewed someone for my blog was the incredible Kate Taylor. I hope everyone had a great day. Sleep well my friends. Thanks for always being there for me. :)
