Miscellaneous thoughts for the new year so far

     Hello everyone
Happy 2019 and welcome to my first blog entry of the new year!! I am still living in my group home. If I'm here in the Summer it'll mark my 4th year here. To say 3 years in has been a struggle is an understatement. But that's for another time. I am looking forward to a CPS interview on March the 6th. CPS stands for Certified Peer Specialist. I've applied for the past couple of years. But have always given up and backed out at the last minute. But this time I feel ready to go and make a difference in someone's life. I have a mental illness and want to help those who like me struggle with their thoughts. Just to put a smile on a persons face will make my day better.

I have a dream to write a book one day and tell my story to others who may not know about mental illness and the clubhouse community. I feel it's important for those who don't necessarily grasp what it's like to be in our shoes on a regular basis. I just have to keep writing and not give up on myself. Often times i do and end up letting myself down as a result. So many judge those who struggle, they think we're violent, or that we are people to be feared.

That's why I look up to those in my circle like my friend Deb Waybright because she understands and loves me for who I am. I know I can count on her to listen, and offer me good advice and wisdom and a smile too. I am also planning on doing the NAMI walk in Boston in May. I always raise money for it and enjoy going for the past few years. May is mental health awareness month. But you know what every month should be because there's still such a stigma attached, people need to be aware.

I also participated in the NAN project. What and honor it was too, I was trained to be a peer mentor. I even got a cool certificate. I think the young adults should take the class. It's intense, but worth it in the end. I hope to come out of my shell more in this new year. I've been isolating a lot. But hoping to continue to work on getting out more in my community. I want to do more, maybe do something I've never done before. I miss my town of North Andover too, maybe I'll move back there one day. If anyone has advice on how I can get involved more, please comment on this blog below. As always I'd love to hear your thoughts..

Please have a happy and healthy new year.. I know good things are ahead.
