Young adult story telling event

Last week I went to a story telling event in Dorchester and told my recovery story in front of a small group of people. It was really gratifying to tell my story again, I was nervous at first because there were new people that never heard my story. I felt like I mumbled a bit and I also felt like my story was out of order but I was surprised when everyone in the group gave me accolades for my bravery! I also enjoyed listening to the other group members stories. I used to think I was the only one with struggles. But then I realized after I told my story that I wasn't so alone. I enjoyed meeting storyteller David Arfa too, he taught the group how to tell their story. I walked away with a feeling of being appreciated when the day was over. I learned a lot about myself and the other young adults that were there. I look forward to going to the next two events in hopes that I can coach other young adults how to tell their story. I am inspired to help others, I have a passion for it, I can feel it. I want to teach others, I've had so many wonderful teachers. I know I haven't seen some of them in a very long time, and yes some of them have moved on but I will never forget what they did for me.

I can give you a perfect example of someone who has inspired me to be a teacher. My 3rd grade teacher. She was always there for me, and supported me through everything. I still keep in touch with her to this day. I received a letter from her the other day. It made me feel so good to hear from her. She holds a special place in my heart. All my teachers do. Even the ones who weren't necessarily there for me, or like I said have moved on from my life. I feel like a lucky kid to have had some special people in my life. I want to pay it forward and help someone else. I know there are people who need support. When I needed support my teachers were always there for me when I needed it. I also owe a lot to the staff at the Point After Club too. They have really changed my life. I was really shy when I first walked through the door almost 3 years ago but with their help I'm a much different person. I'm still trying to come out of my shell even more but I have come so far.

I am so fortunate that I have people who understand me in my life. I know a lot of people have walked out of my life. I know some people lead busy lives and that's fine with me. But it doesn't mean that I've forgotten what they did for me. I know that I get busy too and sometimes I don't have enough time to keep in touch. I always keep the special people who impacted my life in the back of my mind. I know I don't have to mention who those people are. I hope that one day I can impact someone's life too. That I can leave an imprint on their heart. I hope that one day I can go back to school to get my Bachelor's degree. I think that will happen down the road though. I am so fortunate to have the support of my parents, and those who are now a part of my everyday life. I will always remember those who touched my life. Those from the past, present, and maybe future. I will end this for now but I hope that everyone likes my blog and will comment on this most current entry. I hope everyone has a good night.
