Hello my loyal readers. Hope your Saturday is well. I just got back from Smolak Farms. I went on a hayride and saw the animals. It's a nice, cool day. But next week is the start of summer. Not really looking forward to the heat. As I promised I would write any updates I had. On Tuesday the Point After Club and the members went to Boston for a rally to protest the RFR otherwise known as the Request for Response. We first went to the DMH office and chanted for about 20 minutes or so, after that we walked to the State-House and did the same thing. There were some speakers too. Hearing other people's testimony was really touching.
As I said in my previous post I don't like the metal detectors at all. I had to go through twice. I realize how important they are but they sure are a nuisance. All the clubhouse's that were at the rally went into the beautiful building. It took about a half-hour for everybody to get through security. We went to the second floor where the grand stair-case is and the head of the MCC Reva Stein talked to Governor Patrick's aides. Unfortunately I couldn't get many pictures of the statehouse. But when I got back to the club I was able to get my picture taken with Charlotte the Assistant Director and Tom the Director of my day program. I know I must sound like a broken record but I can't say enough how much these two have impacted me. They are the two hardest working people at the club. I care a lot about the staff, but Tom and Charlotte have worked hard to support me and advocate for me. They will drop what ever they are doing to support me and the other members. Most people don't and won't do that. That's what makes the staff at Point After so special.
I've blossomed in the two years that I've been a member at the club. I have made so many friends, and I'm sure they'll be long-lasting friendships. I've made friends with the older folks at the club especially since I've been there. I'm a young adult so it's kind of out of the ordinary for me. I really think I owe the club in large part to my recovery because I have production in my life. I'm not home all the time sitting on my butt. I'm actually a part of a community and I love it. Like the saying goes. "Friends are the family we find along the way". The quote is so true too because the staff and members are a part of my family too. When the day comes that I leave Massachusetts I will always have them in my heart. I will never forget them. They all have touched my life. They have said the same of me as well. I owe them so much, It can be hard sometimes for me to get up and go but at the end of the day It's something I know is important to do. I will end this entry for now but everybody please comment and read. I really appreciate it. :). Have a great weekend and father's day!!!
